Literature Text

Footfalls resonate through the forest,
The leaves of ancient oaks rustle.
Time has no meaning to me,
For I am free.

The endless sky is embraced
By towering cliffs reaching high.
Mighty winds cannot move me,
For I am free.

The birds take flight,
Rising to see their coming.
The fire does not frighten me,
For I am free.

They approach quietly,
And try to hide,
But they wont find me,
For I am free.

Hounds cry out,
Lusting for blood,
But they cannot catch me,
For I am free.

They took cousin Bear,
Killed brother Wolf,
Stripped friend Deer of his crown,
And now they try to track me down.

But it is I who will win today, you see.
Try as they might, I cannot be tamed.
For I am free.

Hunting is one thing, causing extinction is another. Humans have completely killed off numerous species, and are on the verge of losing even more if nothing is done.

A poem from the perspective of a hunter's intended prey... But, what animal is it? A fox? A badger? A puma? Or, is it even an animal at all, but rather a person who hasn't lost touch with their wild roots? Something to think about.

Dedicated to all of you wild furries out there. :D (Big Grin)

Hello! We are in a group under the Poetry Cafe. Pleased to meet you!

I rather like this poem, for I share the sentiments... it is indeed a shame that so many creatures have fallen to humanity...
